How to Add Photos and Videos on the Mobile App

With the Houzz Pro mobile app, you can quickly document project progress right from the job-site by taking photos and videos. You can save multiple files at once and quickly upload them directly to your project to share with your team, subcontractors and clients.

Take a Photo

To take a photo from the mobile app, tap the Take a Photo icon in the Create New section on the app's homepage. You can also tap the Create button from the bottom menu, then select the Take a Photo icon.

You will need to select the relevant project from the project list (or create a new project).

The photo capture screen will appear. If you would like to access existing images, click the image icon under Video to view your phone's photo library and upload images from there.

If you would like to take a new photo, choose the Photo format in the middle of your screen. Use the flip camera icon at the bottom of your screen to adjust the camera view if needed. Once ready, tap the circle button to take the photo.

Once you have taken the photo, a popup will appear where you can quickly name the photo, delete the photo, or markup the photo with arrows, drawings, text and more (more details about markup below).

You will see the photo thumbnail under Video. You can take as many photos as you would like and upload them all at once. You can even mix and match photos and videos and easily upload them together.

Be sure to tap Upload once you are ready to save the photos to your project.

Take a Video

To take a video from the mobile app, tap the Take a Photo icon in the Create New section on the app's homepage. You can also tap the Create button from the bottom menu, then select the Take a Photo icon.

You will need to select the relevant project from the project list (or create a new project).

The photo capture screen will appear. You will have the option to create a traditional video or a walkthrough video – each video can be a maximum of two minutes long.

While a traditional video will only show the front camera view of your phone, a walkthrough video will show a double camera view – both the front camera view and back camera view. This would be useful if you would like to show both the room and your face as you walk through and add commentary about a room.

Choose either the Video or Walkthrough format in the middle of your screen. Use the flip camera icon at the bottom of your screen to adjust the camera view if needed. Once ready, tap the circle button to take the video – tap the button again to end your video.

Once you have taken the video, a popup will appear where you can quickly name the video or delete the video.

You will see the video thumbnail in the bottom left of your screen. You can take more than one video and upload them all at once. You can even mix and match photos and videos and easily upload them together.

Be sure to tap Upload once you are ready to save the video to your project.

View and Edit Photos and Videos

To view all your newly uploaded photos and videos, select the relevant project – you can access projects from your app's homepage or from the Projects icon from the bottom menu.

All your photos and videos will appear in the Files section on your project overview page.

To edit a photo or video, tap the three dots icon for that file. Here, you can select the photo, view details, manage permissions (share the file), move, rename, delete or duplicate.

If you click on the image itself, you can open up the photo in full-screen view and make more edits. In the menu at the top right of your screen, select the three dots icon to send a copy, rename, delete, manage permissions, and view details (as shown below).

You can also select the comments icon to add or view comments, or select the Markup icon to add annotations directly on top of the photo (more details below).

Photo Markup

When you select photo markup during the upload process – or during the view/edit process – you can annotate the photo and add new content, including arrows, rulers with measurements, drawings, furniture, shapes and text. Let's go over each option.

Arrows

Select the Arrow icon in your markup menu to include arrows on your photo. Tap the photo where you would like the arrow to start, then drag your finger and tap again to end the arrow. You can tap and drag the arrow to move it, or you can tap and drag the end of the arrow to adjust the size.

Select the Undo button to revert a change. Click Save once complete.

Rulers

Select the Ruler icon in your markup menu to include a ruler with measurements on your photo. Tap the photo where you would like the ruler to start, then drag your finger and tap again to end the ruler. Input the numerical measurements you would like to document – you can also adjust the ruler colour and ruler design.

Once added, you can tap and drag the ruler to move it, or you can tap and drag the end of the ruler to adjust the size.

Select the Undo button to revert a change. Click Save once complete.

Drawings

Select the Drawing icon in your markup menu to include free-form drawings on your photo. Use your finger to tap and drag to create your drawing. On the left side of your photo, you can adjust the line thickness. At the bottom, you can change the line colour.

Select the Undo button to revert a change. Click Save once complete.

Furniture, Stickers and Shapes

Select the Stickers icon in your markup menu to include furniture icons, planning icons, stickers, and floor plan icons on your photo. Tap the relevant icon to add it to your photo, then drag it to the area you would like to place it. While you cannot customise the colour or size, you can duplicate or delete the item once it's on your photo.

Select the Undo button to revert a change. Click Save once complete.

Text

Select the Text icon in your markup menu to add written notes on your photo. Type your message using the keypad below – you can change the font colour here as well. Once the note is done, you can tap and drag it to adjust placement on your photo.

Select the Undo button to revert a change. Click Save once complete.
