How to Create Elevations in 3D Floor Planner

When you create a 3D floor plan in Houzz Pro, you can also create elevations to better showcase your vision to your team and clients.

Elevations display your 3D design from a different perspective by capturing a detailed 2D version of an interior or exterior wall. With an elevation, you can better present the details of your design. You can use rulers to call out specific heights and measurements for documentation. You can crop, zoom and pan to frame your elevation view as needed. And once finalised, you can even turn that elevation view into a photorealistic rendering or screenshot.

How to Create an Elevation

To get started, open up the relevant 3D floor plan (or create a new floor plan from scratch or from a template). Click the Elevations icon from the menu on the right.

You can create an elevation in either Floor Plan or Dollhouse mode.

In Floor Plan mode, select the relevant wall. Click the triangle icon on the side of the wall you want to create the elevation on. In the example below, the bottom triangle will create an elevation in the utility room, whereas the top triangle will create an elevation in the kitchen/dining room.

In Dollhouse mode, select the relevant wall, then click Create Elevation in the top toolbar.

Your new elevation view will now appear and will automatically save. On the right side of your screen, you can adjust your elevation settings to frame the right view. Settings include:

  • Elevation Depth: The depth of your elevation. With this setting, you can adjust the view closer or further away.
  • View Height: The height of your elevation. With this setting, you can crop the height so you are only showing the relevant view.
  • View Width: The width of your elevation. With this setting, you can crop the width so you are only showing the relevant view.

To adjust these setting, make changes in the toggle bar or manually adjust the percentage.

At the top of your elevations, you can add measurements, create photorealistic renderings, or take a screenshot.

Add Measurements

Select Measurements if you would like to add a ruler to your elevation. This is a good way to easily document the length of a wall, cabinet, piece of furniture, or distance between objects.

Click your floor plan where you would like the ruler to start, then click again at the end point. The ruler will appear on your floor plan and will automatically save. On the right side of your screen, you can rename the measurement and adjust the exact ruler length. Click the bin icon on your floor plan to delete the measurement.

Generate Photorealistic Images

Select Generate Photorealistic Image to create a true-to-life image representation of your elevation. This is a good way to showcase to clients a different representation of your design so they can better envision the final product.

Once you click Generate Photorealistic Image, a new screen will appear with a preview. Select Generate to create.

Generating your photorealistic image typically takes a few minutes, so feel free to keep working on your elevation while you wait. There will be a notification at the bottom of your screen to let you know once it's complete. To access your photorealistic render, you can either click on View or access directly in that project's files.

Create Screenshot Views

Select Screenshot View if you would like to take a simple screenshot of your elevation. This is a good way to save an image of the elevation that you can easily add to your project files and share with your client or team.

Generating the screenshot can take a few seconds. There will be a notification at the bottom of your screen to let you know once it's complete. To access your screenshot, you can either click on View or access directly in that project's files.

View and Manage Elevations

All your elevations will automatically save under the Elevations icon of your floor plan. From here, you can view, rename and delete existing elevations, as well as add new ones.

Click the three dots icon next to the relevant elevation to rename or delete it.
