How to Integrate Google Drive with Houzz Pro

With Houzz Pro, you can easily streamline your workflow and improve efficiency by importing files and photos from Google Drive. This quick integration ensures that all your important files are in Houzz Pro so you can share with your clients, team, or subcontractors.

Uploaded files and photos can be attached to estimates/proposals, purchase orders, invoices, variation orders, tasks, messages, daily logs, leads and the client dashboard.

If you are connecting Google Drive for the first time, you can do this in settings or within your projects.

Connect Google Drive in Settings

You can quickly connect Google Drive within the settings of your Houzz Pro account.

To start, click on the Settings icon in your navigation, then select Google Drive from the left menu.

On this page, click the Connect button to start setting up your Google Drive integration.

From here, you will need to sign into your Google account in order to connect it. You can either choose from an existing account, or you can sign into another account.

You will receive a notification that Houzz Pro wants to access your Google account. The access will only include the ability to see specific files you upload directly into the Houzz Pro software.

To give access, click Allow.

Your Google Drive will now be accessible throughout Houzz Pro.

If you would like to Disconnect your Google Drive, just click the Disconnect button within the Google Drive section of your settings.

Connect Google Drive in Projects

If you would like to connect your Google Drive within projects instead, you can do this as well. To start, click on the Projects icon in your left navigation, then select the relevant project.

Once on the project overview page, click Files & Photos from the left menu. You can also quickly integrate Google Drive by clicking the Connect link under the Files & Photos section of your project overview page.

Once in Files & Photos, select the Upload button at the top of your screen, then click From Google Drive from the dropdown menu. You can also connect Google Drive for the first time by selecting the Google Drive filter.

A new screen will appear where you can add files directly from Google Drive. Click on the relevant files, then click Select to add to your project.

You will now see the new image in your Files & Photos section. If you would like to add new files moving forward, just click the Upload Files button and select files from your connected Google Drive account.

You can easily filter all your files to show only Google Drive files by selecting the Google Drive filter at the top of your list.

Adjust Google Share Settings

Before you start to attach Google Drive files within Houzz Pro, it is important to adjust your share settings for those files within your Google account. Since Google controls all permissions to documents held in Google Drive, your client, team, or subcontractors will not be able to view the files unless you adjust share settings within Google.

To do this, find the relevant file in your Google Drive, click on the three dots icon, then select Share, then Share again from the dropdown menu.

A new screen will appear where you can adjust share settings. You can either add the relevant person in the text box, or for quick access, change the general access to Anyone with the Link. Be sure to click Save once complete. The file will now be accessible to others.

To save time, you can also adjust the share settings of an entire folder, or multi-select several files at one time. To learn more about share settings for Google Drive, read Share Files from Google Drive.

Attach Google Drive Files in Houzz Pro

Once the Google Drive integration is complete and Google share settings are adjusted, you can access and attach Google Drive files throughout the Houzz Pro software.

The experience is the same as attaching files directly from your desktop. You can access Google Drive files within your Houzz Pro financial documents, including estimates, proposals, invoices, variation orders and purchase orders.

To do this, open up the relevant document and scroll down to the File section under Payments. Click the Attach Files button.

From here, you can select from a previously uploaded file, or you can select Upload from Google Drive to upload and attach new files or images.

You can also access Google Drive in other areas where you typically attach files within Houzz Pro. This includes within tasks, daily logs, messages, and leads.

To do this, open up the relevant feature within your project, and select the Attach Files icon (as shown here within daily logs).

From here, you can select from a previously uploaded file, or you can select Upload from Google Drive to upload and attach new files or images.

Add Google Drive Files to Client Dashboard

If you would like to share uploaded Google Drive files with your clients, you can add them to your client dashboard, just like other files and photos.

To do this, open up the relevant project, then select Files & Photos from the left menu.

From this page, you will see all your updated files. To share a file with your client, you can either:

  • Right-click on the file or click the three dots, then select Manage Permissions
  • Check the box to the left of the file, then select the Permissions icon at the top right of your screen

Be sure to select Access from the dropdown for Client Dashboard View – you can also adjust subcontractor access here as well.

Your uploaded Google Drive file will now appear in the client dashboard.
